Abstract
Based on the case of the wild wheat Distichlis palmeri, which has been identified as a potential food of the future based on its nutritional properties and because it grows in salt water and at high temperatures, the aim of this article is discusses on the implications of imagining and acting based on an abstract humanity that will require food in the future. From a multidisciplinary approach that takes as its axis the anthropological and historical research among the cucapá of Mexicali and the Rarámuri of Chihuahua, both in Mexico, it is argued, on the one hand, that the collective to which the humanity of the future appeals is a relationship that must be built rather than a premise. On the other hand, that the idea of ??a “future” temporality must be revised based on the experiences of ecocide and genocide that Amerindian peoples have suffered for five centuries and, from which, they can affirm that they know the end of the world and that they inhabit dystopian presents, and not futures, where food sovereignty and autonomy is an ancestral struggle.
