Abstract
This article seeks to address the intellectual crossover between the contemporary French thinkers Michel Foucault and Raymond Aron, concerning their respective views on history and truth. Both hold a view of history that departs from the Hegelian perspective. Instead, they emphasize, each in his own system of thought, the intra-historical character of the observer of history, the scientist or philosopher. Despite this affinity, they differ regarding the consequences that this premise has for the existence of general truths that can serve as a guide for human reason, and ethical and political action. While Foucault maintains a radical skepticism, Aron is committed to the search for truth. The different attitudes imply profound differences in each author's views on the meaning of political action.
